Mosquito hum in sweaty haze
If the bedbugs don’t get us
The political zealots will
Morning opens to their cavalcade
Circling the square below our hotel
Loudspeakers proclaiming their candidate
As the true voice of the people
So we can relax knowing its provincial
Circling the ancient palace
Where elephants fought potentates
Mini vans hauling his vacant Asian face
Through humid streets
While propaganda screeches
Through cheap speakers
Of what this corrupt official can do for you
What a relief this is not a coup
